BBC StoryWorks, the content marketing arm of BBC Advertising, is pioneering new ways of understanding the emotional impact of content-led marketing by measuring consumers’ subconscious reaction to campaigns on BBC.com. In a study published today titled ‘The Science of Engagement’, its in-house insight team, in partnership with facial coding experts CrowdEmotion, has combined traditional research metrics with facial coding to understand how brands can use content-led marketing to effectively engage with consumers. The BBC has launched a new international BBC News app for iOS and Android devices. The free app, which since dropping into stores on Friday has already seen 1.5 million downloads, has been completely redesigned. It offers a uniquely personalised approach to its award-winning news on the go, combining top stories and most-watched stories with a set of personally selected or recommended topics, chosen from a range of over 50,000 subjects.

BBC's global news audiences increase to record 265 million
New figures show the BBC’s global audience has increased to a record-breaking 265m people a week. The figures, for 2013/14, represent an increase of 9 million people on the previous year. Global bbc.com figures and Twitter shares hit record high
The BBC announced that bbc.com reached a record 96 million unique users and generated an all-time high of 1.3 billion page views in March 2014. BBC World News welcomed its five millionth Facebook fan and new figures also reveal that the BBC is by far the most-shared news brand on Twitter (source: Newswhip), with its stories shared a record 2.71 million times across the month – almost 50% more than any other publisher.
